Now what have I been up to for the past month? That little guy to the right His name is Xerxes, a four month old kitten, and boy does he have a story!

One day I was coming out of my apartment complex to go to work and he ran up to me meowing. I absolutely love cats, I’ve always grown up with them when I was younger so of course I wanted to keep him. However, I couldn’t because my land lady wants a $350 deposit for animals and an extra $25 a month on rent. I would see him almost every day going inside and out of my apartment complex. One day I came home and someone had shaved him completely (he had beautiful long fur) and cut his whiskers off. Naturally because I’m a cat lover, I was horrified. I talked it over with my boyfriend and he felt sorry too, so we decided to keep him in secret. Because all of his fur was shaved we could easily see that he was severely flea ridden and had to give him three baths to kill most of them. We regularly combed and killed the rest with patience, because I didn’t want his skin to dry out from too many baths. I took him to the vet and was terribly distraught when I found out he has heart murmurs. The vet said if normal cats live about 9-10 years (most cats with homes live longer) then Xerxes would only live for about a year to 18 months. I’ve been doing some reading and research online that give me hope to a longer life for him though. Most articles I’m finding say that kittens will usually grow out of them as they get older, and I found many stories of people who have had kittens that did grow out of them just fine. I have my fingers crossed

Hey guys I just wanted to apologize for my absence and lack of updates the past month. I’ve run into some financial hardships and lack of time to update. For the next couple months my updates will be sparse, and very small most likely, until I’m able to find some time and cater to my real life problems. Valenia will remain open, there is no doubt about that :]
